About the Artist
BIOGRAPHY
I grew up in rural Pennsylvania surrounded by nature, the home to wildlife and a house full of pets. I began painting at a young age, taking art lessons from a local artist. My first art lessons were at a studio with views of a lake that captured deer, black bear, and beaver. I later attended Temple University in Philadelphia, PA where I studied Architecture and took graduate level courses in art.
In addition to my lifelong love of painting I have also enjoyed a career as an architect. Today, I find myself immersed in painting and taking every opportunity to create the next piece of art reflective of the great outdoors, a fascinating wildlife species or a special pet outside of my architectural profession.
My preferred medium is acrylics, in which I strive to capture the essence of the character of a pet or the thoughts that a wildlife species has. It’s the connection that allows creativity and the opportunity to unleash your mind of the industrial world.
While realism has its place so does the exploration of shape, form, and light in abstract and interesting ways. I explore unique techniques in which to illustrate animal art with bright colors or with mixtures of monochrome and color themes. I explore ways to alter brush strokes in my techniques to create textures and patterns that at times portray the illusion of movement. This unlimited dimension of alternate ways to create a painting is what I hope leaves a memorable impression of my art.
STATEMENT
"My art is an expression of my observation and the emotion of what I see in animals, and in nature. There is something truly majestic and almost magical in the way an animal will look at you. I choose to paint a lot of animals and strive to capture the texture of their form and unique features.
My subjects are based on exploring the outdoors or through researching wildlife subjects. I am interested in telling their story whether it be through a realistic portrait or through an expression of unique color combinations.
My hope is that my art may provide both a memorable experience and leave an impression of intrigue”.
